The pharmacy won't take my discount card: what to do now
Last updated November 5, 2026 · Reviewed by the LowerScript editorial team · Español
If the pharmacy refuses your card, do not leave yet. Ask the pharmacist to run the claim again with the three numbers below, ask for the cash price so you can compare, and, if it still fails, call the help desk number below or try another pharmacy.
Step 1: show the pharmacist these numbers
The pharmacist needs all three numbers on the front of the card. Ask them to process it as a primary claim using the RxBIN, RxPCN and RxGRP:
| Field | Number |
|---|---|
| RxBIN | 22690 |
| RxPCN | LOWR |
| RxGRP | 727863 |
These are the numbers shown on our card page. If one is missing or typed wrong, the claim can be rejected, so check that the pharmacy entered each one exactly. Our explainer on RxBIN, RxPCN and RxGRP says what each number does.
Step 2: check why it might have been rejected
A refusal usually has a reason you can check at the counter:
- A number is missing or wrong. See step 1. All three are needed.
- The claim went to insurance first. The card is a discount only and is not insurance. Its terms say it cannot be combined with insurance or any government program such as Medicare or Medicaid. If your insurance was billed for this prescription, the card will not apply to the same purchase.
- The pharmacy does not take part. The card's terms say discounts are available only at participating pharmacies.
- The claim was not run as a primary claim. The card asks the pharmacy to process it as a primary claim.
Step 3: ask for the cash price
Ask what the cash price is with no card at all. That gives you a number to compare against the card price, and the choice is yours. If you are unsure whether the card or your insurance is the better route for this prescription, read discount card vs insurance.
For medical questions, such as whether to change a dose or stop a medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Do not skip a prescription because of a price problem without talking to them first.
Can I use the card with insurance, Medicare or Medicaid?
Not on the same purchase. The card cannot be combined with insurance or with Medicare or Medicaid. You choose one or the other for each prescription. Our guide Can you use a discount card with Medicare? explains the Medicare side, and Does Medicaid cover prescriptions? covers Medicaid.
Still refused? Who to call
Pharmacists can call the help desk at 1-800-974-3135, the number printed on the back of the card. You can call member services at 866-644-1242.
If you need to try another pharmacy, our page Do discount cards work at all pharmacies? explains which pharmacies take the card and why prices differ from store to store. We do not repeat that here.
